The Acoustic Osteo Screener, Model AOS-100 applies
ultrasound technology to evaluate the human bone quality.
AOS-100 transmits and receives wide-band ultrasound pulse through a calcaneus with a pair
of transducers set on opposite side of the heel. |
It provides useful data for bone quality evaluation with the following very simple and
quick procedures:
First, it measures the average speed of sound in the patient's calcaneus from the
propagation delay time of ultrasound pulses;
Second, it measures transmission index (or value indexing the degree of transmission) of
ultrasound from the transmission waveform by a unique method:
Third, it calculates osteo sono-assessment index (or value indexing the bone strength from
the sonic characteristics) of the calcaneus.
Since AOS-100 utilizes ultrasound, it can examine even young people under 20 years old or
pregnant women with no fear of x-ray exposure.
From these facts, AOS-100 is useful for screening the patients who may suffer osteoporosis
or osteopenia.
