R&F  Dose Management

Reducing the exposure to radiation of both patients and staff is a major goal of GE Medical Systems.

As the company to first introduce grid controlled pulsed fluoroscopy that delivered outstanding motion stopping benefits in vascular imaging, GE Medical Systems has again led the way with the introduction of SMART-Fluoro™ radiation dose reduction software on R&F systems.

SMART-Fluoro™
overcomes the limitations of low frame rate pulsed fluoro (less than 25 frames per second) that introduces gap filling, and may lead to loss of clinically relevant information and jerky image regeneration on TV monitors. In addition, it

  • does not use gap filling
  • allows the system to capture every movement
  • can reduce radiation dose without even compromising the image quality of dynamic GI imaging

And that is not all, clinical studies have demonstrated that techniques, such as last image hold, can save radiation exposure to the patient during a procedure .

On Remote R&F GE Medical Systems has also led the way with the introduction of software programs that allow the real time selection of patient (skin) dose. With the ability to image at any SID with the Prestige VH Plus system, users have a powerful facility that too can reduce radiation exposure.

Note that all expressions and references to radiation dose conservation are in comparison to standard continuous fluoroscopy.
