IB0900G -- HSV-1 and HSV-2 Differentiation Immunoblot IgG
The HSV-1 and HSV-2 Differentiation Immunoblot IgG Kit is designed for use as a reflex
test for patients serum, previously determined to have antibodies to either HSV-1
and or HSV-2. Serotype determination is important for epidemiological considerations as
well as patient counseling. In the past, HSV-1 infections were found in the oropharyngeal
areas and HSV-2 infections were found in the genital areas of the body. However, it has
become increasingly difficult to determine HSV serotype based on clinical symptoms alone.
Both serotypes can cause fever blisters, rhinitis, keratoconjunctivitis,
meningoencephalitis, genital lesions and both serotypes destroy lymphoid tissue. This kit
uses an immunoblot methodology to detect IgG antibody reactivity with type-specific HSV
proteins. The purified HSV recombinant proteins (gG1 and gG2) allow a clear and easily
read result on nitrocellulose strips. The rapid determination of HSV serotype is crucial
for patients who are pregnant or patients who require antiviral therapy.
Each kit contains twenty-four immunoblot strips with purified recombinant HSV-1 and
HSV-2 antigens (gG1 and gG2) immobilized on a nitrocellulose membrane. All necessary
reagents and control are included.
